Question

A circular disc of radius 6 cm is divided into three sectors with central angles 90, 120 and 150. What part of the whole circle is the sector with central angle 150? Also, calculate the ratio of the areas of the three sectors.

Solution

Radius of disc (r) = 6 cm

When θ = 90°

Area of a sector I = θ360× π × r2
= 90360× π × r2
= 14× π × r2

When θ = 120°

Area of a sector II =120360× π × r2
=13× π × r2

When θ = 150°

Area of a sector III = 150360× π × r2=512× π × r2

Required ratio = Area of sector I : area of sector II : area of sector III

=14× π × r2:13× π × r2:512× π × r2

=14:13:512

= 3:4:5

Hence, required ratio = 3 : 4 : 5
