A circular fish pond has a diameter of 14 m. The pond is surrounded by a concrete path 1.75 metre wide. Find the area of the path?
Width of the concrete path =1.75 m
Radius of outer circle (Including pond + Path), R=7+1.75=8.75 m
Area of the path = Area of the outer circle − Area of the inner circle
=πR2−πr2
=π(R2−r2)
=227×(R+r)(R−r)
=227×(8.75+7)(8.75−7)
=227×15.75×1.75
=86.625 m2
