Question

A circular wire loop of radius R is placed in the XYplane, centered at the origin O. A square loop of side a (a<<R) having two turns is placed with its center at Z=3R along the axis of the circular wire loop as shown in figure. The plane of the square loop makes an angle of 45 with respect to the Zaxis. If the mutual inductance between the loops is given by μ0a22P/2R, then the value of P is -

Solution

The correct option is D 7

Magnetic flux through the square loop is given by,

ϕ=NBA

ϕ=2BAcos45

ϕ=2BA

Magnetic field due to the current carrying circular loop at a point on its axis,

B=μ0i2R2(R2+Z2)3/2

=μ0i2R2(R2+3R2)3/2

=μ0i2×23R=μ0i24R

ϕ=2×μ0i24R×a2

ϕ=μ0ia227/2R

Also, ϕ=Mi

Mutual inductance,

M=μ0a227/2R=μ0a22P/2R

P=7

Hence, option (D) is the correct answer.
