If group contain 3 people then, $=\frac{40}{3}=13$ {1 remainder}

If group contain 4 people then, $=\frac{40}{4}=10$

If group contain 5 people then, $=\frac{40}{5}=8$

If we make group of only 3 people then there will be 13 groups but 1 person will be left so taking 1 people into the account we have to make 12 groups(3people) + 1 group(4people)

So the largest group that will be made from 40 students will be 12 group of 3 people and 1 group of 4 people

Hence the largest number of groups possible are 13
