The correct option is D

Assuming that, there are x benches, when 4 students sit on each, three benches are left vacant

Number of students = (x – 3) x 4 ….(i)

If 3 students sit on each bench 3 students are left standing.

Number of students = 3x + 3 .…(ii)

So from (i) and (ii), we have -

4(x – 3) = 3x + 3

$\Rightarrow$ 4x – 12 = 3x + 3

$\Rightarrow$ x = 15

Number of students = 3x + 3 = 3 x 15 + 3 = 48
