A closed box 12 cm long, 10 cm broad and 5 cm high is to be made from a sheet of metal. How much metal sheet will be required?

Length (l) of the box = 12 cm
Breadth (b) of the box = 10 cm
Height (h) of the box = 5 cm
Total surface area of the box = 2 (l × b + b × h + h × l)
= 2 (12 × 10 + 10 × 5 + 5 × 12) cm²
= 2 (120 + 50 + 60) cm²
= 2 (170 + 60) cm²
= 2 (230) cm²
= 460 cm²
∴ 460 cm² of metal sheet will be needed to make the box.
