A closed vessel has 6g of hydrogen at pressure P and temperature 500K. A small hole is made in it so that hydrogen leaks out. How much hydrogen (in gm) leaks out if the final pressure is P/2 and temperature falls to 300K.

Given, V1=V V2=V
P1=P P2=P2
T1=500 T2=300
m1=6g m2=?
So, by ideal gas equation
P1V1=n1RT1 P2V2=n2RT2
Equating V1=V2=V
n1RT1P1=n2RT2P2
m1R500KMP=m2R300×2P
6×5002×300=m2
m2=5gm
Hydrogen leaks out =65=1gm
Hence, the answer is 1gm.
