A closely wound solenoid 80 cm long has 5 layers of windings of 400turns each. The diameter of the solenoid is 1.8 cm. If the currentcarried is 8.0 A, estimate the magnitude of B inside the solenoid near its centre.

Given: Length of the solenoid is 80cm, layer on the winding is 5, turn on each winding is 400, diameter of the solenoid is 1.8cm , and the current carried by the solenoid is 8A.

Magnetic field ( B ) inside the solenoid near its centre is given as,

B= μ 0 NI l

where, the permeability of free space is μ 0 ,total number of turns is N, current carried by solenoid is I , and length of the solenoid is l.

By substituting the given values in the above equation, we get,

B= 4π× 10 7 ×5×400×8 80cm×( 1m 100cm ) =2.512× 10 2 T

Therefore, the magnetic field inside the solenoid near its centre is 2.512× 10 2 T.
