Question

A club offers two memberships. One for
$120 and charges a cost of $20 for every visit. Other membership costs $180 and charges a cost of $5 for every visit. At the end of the month, both memberships get the same amount of money. Find the amount they got if y indicates the total charge and x indicates the number of visits.

Given,
x indicates number of visits and y indicates total charge.

For Membership 1,

y = 120 + 20x-----(1)

For Membership 2,

y = 180 + 5x----- (2)

Equate both the equations (1) and (2) since both charge equal amount

120 + 20x = 180 + 5x

20x - 5x = 180 - 120

15x = 60

x=6015

x = 4

Substitute the value of x in equation (1), we get,

y = 120 + 20(4)

y = 120 + 80

y = ₹200

The total charge is ₹200.
