Mathematically, both the comets will appear together after few years, which will be the common multiple of 8 and 12.

Multiples of 8 = 8, 16, 24.....
Multiples of 12 = 12, 24, 36.....

So, after 2000, the comets will appear together after 24 years.

The next year after 2000, in which the comets will appear together is 2000 + 24 = 2024.
