Question

A commutator changes the direction of current then how does it ensures a unidirectional current in a DC generator

Open in App
Solution

Remember a generator is used to convert mechanical energy into electric energy by the process of electromagnetic induction. In case of a commutator , it changes the direction of current in an electric circuit employed by us.The direction of current in generator can not be changed by commutator but by the direction of rotation ofgenerator coil by the power of mechanical energy which moves the coil. In case we are interested to make proto type generator the we should not change the position of commutator in the circuit. The direction of current will remain unidirectional.
