We know that frequency f will remain same for incident as well as transmitted wave as it depends on source.
Also, f=vλ where v is wave velocity and λ is wavelength.


So, f=viλi=vtλt
λtλi=vtvi=T4μTμ
λtλi=12 .........(1)
Now, we know wave number is given by,
k=2πλ
So,
kikt=λtλi
kikt=12=1:2 [ from (1) ]
