Solution

The correct option is D ethanoic acid, ethanol, ethylethanoate
The characteristics of compound Z shows that it is an ester which is formed by reaction of an alcohol with reaction of a carboxylic acid in presence of conc. H2SO4, further X is formed by acidiflcation of Y. Hence, Y should be an alcohol and X a carboxylic acid. Hence, the reactions will be :
C2H5OH(Y)ethanolAlkaline−−−−KMnO4CH3COOH(X)ethanoic acid
C2H5OH(Y)+CH3COOH(X)Conc.−−−H2SO4CH3COC2H5Xethyl ethanoate+H2O
