The compound X, Y and Z are ethanol $(C_{2} H_{5} O H)$ , sodium ethoxide $C_{2} H_{5} O N a$ and ethyl chloride $C_{2} H_{5} C l$ respectively.
Ethanol reacts with Na metal to form sodium ethoxide.

$C_{2} H_{5} O H N a - - \to C_{2} H_{5} O N a + 0.5 H_{2}$
Ethanol also reacts with $P C l_{5}$ to give ethyl chloride.

$C_{2} H_{5} O H P C l_{5} - -- \to C_{2} H_{5} C l$
The product obtained in the reaction between sodium ethoxide and ethyl chloride is diethyl ether.
