Question

A cone, a hemisphere and a cylinder stand on the same base and have equal height. Find the ratio of their volumes.

Open in App
Solution

Let, radius of bases be 'r'
and their height be 'h'

For hemisphere,
radius=heightr=h......(1)
Now,
volume of cone, v1=13πr2h
volume of hemisphere, v2=23πr3
volume of cylinder, v3=πr2h

The ratio, v1:v2:v3=13πr2h:23πr3:πr2h
=h3:2r3:h

=h3:2h3:h [From (1)]

=13:23:1

=1:2:3

Hence, the required ratio is 1:2:3
