A constant 60V dc supply is connected across two resistors of resistance 400kΩ and 200kΩ. What is the reading of the voltmeter when a resistance of 200kΩ is connected across the second resistor as shown in the figure?

The correct option is B 12 V
The voltmeter is arranged in parallel combination with the 200 kΩ resistance. Hence the equivalent resistance R of the combination is
1R=1200+1200
R=2002=100 kΩ
Now, the total resistance across DC supply Rdc(say) is
Rdc=400+100=500kΩ
Hence the voltage across voltmeter Vv is
Vv=100500×60=12 V
