Solution

The correct option is D d
Step 1: Derive rate of production of thermal energy

We know that thermal energy produced,

U=i2Rt(1)

Where i is current, R is resistance and t is time

Also for TC increase in temperature

R=Ro(1+T)(2)

From equation (2) and (1), we get

Ui2R0(1+T)t

Differentiating w.r.t. t taking temperature constant,

dUdt=i2R0(1+T)

Step 2: Plot variation of thermal energy with temperature

At T=0C,

dUdt=i2R0

Also,

dudtT

Hence, the plot between dUdt and T is a straight line with intercept on yaxis as i2R0.

This is best represented by curve d.

Hence, option (d) is correct.
