Question

A constant force of 5N can produce an acceleration of 1m/s2 on the body of mass m and 2m/s2 on the body of mass 2m. If both the bodies are tied together and same force is applied, then what will be the acceleration of the system?

Solution

Given forceF1=5N and acceleration a1=1m/s2 for mass of body m
and mass of second body is 2m acceleration of second body =2m/s2
We know force F=mass×acceleration
m=51kg and mass of 2nd object =2m=10kg
Now acceleration produced when a force of 5 N applied on both the objects when tied together F=(5+10)a
a=515m/s2
