Question

A constant load of 300 MW is supplied by two 200 MW generators, for which incremental fuel costs are:
dC1dPG1=0.10PG1+20.0;dC2dPG2=0.12PG2+15
[Where PG is in MW and C in Rs/hr]
If the most economic division of load between the generators is X and Y MW, then saving in Rs/day obtained compared to equal load sharing is Rs, _____ per day.

  1. 218.16

Solution

The correct option is A 218.16

The most economic division of load is

0.10PG1+20=0.12PG2+15

0.10PG10.12PG2=5

PG1+PG2=300

PG1=140.9MW

PG2=159.1MW

Equal load sharing PG1=PG2=150MW

Increase in cost for unit-1;
=150140.9(0.1PG1+20)dPG1

=0.1(PG1)22∣ ∣150140.9+20(PG1)|150140.9=314.36Rs/hr

Increase in cost for unit-2

150159.1(0.12PG2+15)dPG2=305.27Rs/hr

Net saving = (314.36305.27)×24

=Rs218.16/day
