Question

A container weighs 50 g when empty, 120 g when filled with water and 113 g when filled with an oil. Find the density of the oil.

Open in App
Solution

Volume of container is fixed.
Mass of water alone =120-50 =70 g
Now we know,
density=mass/volume
and density of water =1 g/cm^3
So
Volume =70/1=70cm^3
Now in case of oil
To find density
Mass of oil alone =113 - 50 =63 g
Density =63/70
=0.9 g/cm^3(volume is constant)

Hope this helps :)
