A cottage industry produces a certain number of articles in a day. It was observed on a particular day that the cost of production of each article (in ₹) was 3 more than twice the number of articles produced on that day. Find the number of articles produced, if the total cost of production on that day was ₹ 90.
Let the number of articles produced =x
Given that the cost of production of each article (in ₹) was 3 more than twice the number of articles produced on that day.
So that the cost of production of each article =₹(2x+3)
Given that If the total cost of production on that day was ₹ 90.
So that production cost = ₹ 90
⇒x(2x+3)=90
⇒2x2+3x–90=0
Factorizing the above equation,
⇒2x2−12x+15x−90=0
⇒2x(x−6)+15(x−6)=0
⇒(2x+15)(x−6)=0
⇒x=−152 or x=6 are the roots
But number of objects cannot be negative.
Hence, no. of articles produced = 6
