Question

A cottage industry produces a certain number of toys in a day. The cost of production of each toy (in rupees) was found to be 55 minus the number of toys produced in a day. On a particular day, the cost of production was 750. If x denotes the number of toys produced that day, then form the quadratic equation to find x.

Solution

Let the number of toys produced on a particular day be x.
Given: The cost of production of each toy (in rupees) was found to be 55 minus the number of toys produced on that particular day
Therefore,
Cost of production of each toy on that particular day =Rs.(55x)
Total cost of production on that particular day for x number of toys =Rs.x(55x)
Also, it is given that on that particular day, the total cost of production was Rs.750.
Therefore,
x(55x)=750
55xx2=750
x255x+750=0
Hence the quadratic equation to find out the no. of toys produced on that particular day is x255x+750=0.
