A cube of lead which adges measuring 6 cm is melted and formed into 27 equal cubes what will be the length of the edges of the new cubes?

Solution

the volume of lead used will remain same.
So initial volume of lead = 6x6x6 = 216 cm^3
let volume of each cube be 'v'
so final volume will be = 27 v

now
216=27v
v=8 cm^3

as we know v = side^3
so, 8 = side^3
hence side of small cube =2 cm
