A cuboidal petrol tin has dimensions of $20 c m \times 16 c m \times 14 c m$ . What is the total area of a sheet of tin required to make $12$ such tins?

Solution

A petrol tank is in the form of a cuboid
Given: Dimensions of the cuboid $= 20$ cm $\times 16$ cm $\times 14$ cm
Total surface area of the tin $= 2 (l b + b h + l h)$ where $l = 20$ cm, $b = 16$ cm and $h = 14$ cm
$∴$ Total surface area of the tin $= 2 (20 \times 16 + 16 \times 14 + 20 \times 14) = 2 (320 + 224 ‬ + 280) = 1, 648 ‬$ sq.cm
Total area of sheet required to make such $12$ tins $= 1648 \times 12 = 19, 776 ‬$ sq.cm
