Question

A current 10 ampere is maintained in a conductor of cross-section of 104m2 if the electron density is 9×1028m2 what is the drift velocity of free electrons?

Solution

As we know relation between current and drift velocity
I. e I = vdena
where I = current
vd =drift velocity
e = electron
n = no of electrons per unit volume
a =area of cross section
10=9×1028×104×vd
vd=1.1×1024
