Question

A current of 4A is passed through a straight wire of length 3cm in a uniform perpendicular magnetic field of 12T. What is the magnetic force experienced by the wire?

Open in App
Solution

Step 1. Given data

The length of the wire is, L=3cm=0.03m

Current is, I=4A

The intensity of the magnetic field is, B=12T.

Step 2. Formula used

Force on a straight current-carrying conductor placed in a uniform perpendicular magnetic field, F=B×L×I

Where, B is the magnetic field, L is the length of the wire, I is the current.

Step 3. Finding magnetic force

F=BLI

Put all the values in formula,

F=12T×0.03m×4A

After solving we get,

F=1.44N

Therefore, the magnetic force experienced by the wire is 1.44N.
