Question

A curve on a level road has a radius 75 m. The maximum speed of a car turning on this curved road can be 30 m/s without skidding. If radius of curved road is changed to 48 m and the coefficient of friction between the tyres and the road remains same, then maximum allowed speed should be m/s

Open in App
Solution

Condition for no skidding,
fsmax=mv2r

Also static friction, fsmax=μmg

μmg=mv2r

v=μgr

Since coefficient of friction remains same,

v1v2=r1r2

30v2=7548=2516=54

v2=24 m/s
