A cyclic hydrocarbon having carbon-carbon single bonds as well as carbon-carbon double bonds in its molecule is :
(a) C6H12 (b) C6H14 (c) C6H6 (d) C6H10

Solution

(c) C6H6

Benzene ( C6H6 ) is the cyclic hydrocarbon having carbon-carbon single bonds as well as carbon-carbon double bonds in its molecule.

Alkanes are a group of acyclic, saturated hydrocarbons. These contain carbon-carbon single bonds. The single bond is made up of one σ (sigma) bond.

Their general formula is CnH2n+2 e.g:C6H14

Alkenes are unsaturated hydrocarbons that have at least one carbon-carbon double bond. Their general formula is CnH2n e.g : C6H12

Alkynes are unsaturated hydrocarbons that have at least one carbon-carbon triple bond. Their general formula is CnH2n2 e.g : C6H10

Aromatic compounds are chemical compounds that consist of conjugated planar ring systems accompanied by delocalized pi-electron clouds in place of individual alternating double and single bonds. They are also called aromatics or arenes. The best examples are toluene and benzene.
