Question

A cyclist moves from a certain point x and goes round a circle of radius r and reaches y exactly the opposite side of the point x what is the distance and displacement of the cyclist during the journey?

Solution

Given,

The radius of the circle = r

According to the question, the cyclist is moving on the circular road and after sometimes he reaches a point just opposite to the starting point x

We know,

Distance traveled = Half of the perimeter of the circular track = πr

Now,

Displacement = Straight line distance between the initial and final point = 2r
