Solution

Step1:Finding volume of cylinder

According to the given details

Outer diameter D=16cm

Height =length=100cm

Thickness of iron sheet =2cm

Outer radiusR=162=8cm

Volume of cylinder

=πR2h=227×82×100=1408007cm3

Step2: finding volume of hollow space

Now, inner diameter d

=outerdiameter2×thicknessofironsheet=16-2×2=16-4=12cm

Inner radius r=122=6cm

Thus, Volume of hollow space

=πr2h=227×62×100=792007cm3

Step3: Finding volume of iron used

Volume of iron used

=VolumeofcylinderVolumeofhollowspace=1408007-792007=616007=8,800cm3

Answer

Hence, the volume of iron used is 8,800cm3.
