Question

A decimolar solution of potassium ferrocyanide is 50% dissociated at 300K. Calculate the osmotic pressure of the solution. (R=8.314KJ1mol1)

Open in App
Solution

When potassium ferrocyanide dissociates it gives two product, n=2.
β=i11n1
β=degree of dissociation
i=Van't Hoff factor
0.5=i1121
i=0.75
π=iCRT=0.75×8.314×300=187.065J/L=1.847atm
Osmotic pressure is 1.847 atm.
