Solution

(a) A solution in which no more solute can be dissolved at a given temperature is called a saturated solution. [1 mark]

(b) Since Mohan has an excess amount of salt as compared to Sarika to dissolve in half a glass of water, he would be able to prepare saturated solution [1 mark]

(c) The maximum amount of solute that can be dissolved in a given quantity of a solvent at a given temperature increases with the increase in the temperature. [1 mark]

When ice is added to the lemonade, its temperature decreases. So, less sugar can be dissolved in it now. [1 mark]

Therefore, in order to dissolve more sugar in the lemonade, we should add ice only after dissolving the sugar. [1 mark]
