(a) Force is defined as the push or pull on an object. Force causes an object to move, to speed up, slow down, change shape or change direction.

(b) Force can produce the following effects:

1. It can move a stationary body.
2. It can stop a moving body.
3. It can change the speed of a moving body.
4. It can change the direction of a moving body.
5. It can change the shape (and size) of a body.
