(a) Describe the threat to Taj Mahal monument due to air pollution.
(b) State any two ways of controlling air pollution.
(a).
Acid rain is a major threat to the Taj Mahal. When the acid rain falls on the marble, they react and causes the marble cancer to the monument. This acid rain s very corrosive in nature. The yellowing of the Taj Mahal is due to the deposition of soot particles that are emitted from the Mathura oil refinery.
(b). Prevention of air pollution:
i. Using smokeless sources of energy like smokeless stoves, which use biogas, solar energy, etc.
ii. Using devices for filtering smoke in chimneys of factories and powerhouses.
iii. Planting more trees.
iv. Locating industries away from residential areas.
v. Strictly checking pollution levels in automobiles’ exhaust emission.
