Hazen's formula for settling velocity Vs,

Vs=418(s1)d2(3T+70)100

=418(2.651)×(0.05)2(3×20+70)100

Vs=2.24 mm/sec = 0.224 cm/sec

Conditions for effective removal

(i) Vsi>V0

(ii) H/VsL/VH

VHVs=LHVH=Vs×LH
