A dextro-rotatory compound:
The compound which is having a chiral center (carbon attached to the four different atoms/groups) is called as chiral compound and it rotates the plane of plane polarized light towards right or left. When it rotates the plane towards the right, it is called as dextro-rotatory and when it rotates the plane towards left, it is called as laevo-rotatory. These compounds can show optical activity and they do not contain any of the four elements of symmetry. |
