Solution
As we know a spark plug just ignite the fuel by providing ambient temperature upto its flash point through diesel fumes or vapours.
Flash point, is the lowest temperature at which vapour of the material will ignite, when given an ignition source.
But in diesel engines flash point is 56°C which cannot be ignite by a spark-plugs.
In diesel engine, a highly compressed air is introduced into combustion chamber, this air increases the temperature of diesel fumes a required temperature and thus the mixture self ignites.
