Question

A disc of mass 5kg and radius 50cm rolls on the ground with a velocity of 10m/s . Calculate the kinetic energy of disc ( I= MR2/2)

Open in App
Solution

Given :

mass=m=5kg
radius=r=50cm=50 / 100=0.5m
Velocity=v=10m/s
Moment of Inertia of Disk (M.I) =(1/2)mr²
=(1/2)x5 x0.5x0.5
=0.625kgm²
Total Kinetic energy =(1/2) I ω² +1/2 mV²
=1/2 I (V/r)² + 1/2 m v²
=1/2 x 0.625x(10/0.5)² + 1/2 x 5 x 10²
=125+ 250
=375J
Therefore, Total Kinetic energy is 375 J
