Solution

Let the MP of the book = Rs xRate of discount = 16%Discount = 16% of Rs x = Rs16x100 = Rs4x25Now, 16 % discount on MP of book enables a man to buy a pen of Rs 80.So, according to question, 4x25 = 80x = 500Now, Marked price of the book = Rs 500Selling price of the book = MP - discount = 500 - 80 = Rs 420So, the man buys the book for Rs 420.
