Given:

T2=0C=0+273 K=273 K

T1=17C=(17+273)K=290 K

Heat required to be taken out to freeze 1 kg of water already at 0C is

Q2=mL=1×80,000 cals

Q2=80000×4.2 J


Now, using coefficient of performance of refrigeration is given by

Q2W=T2T1T2

W=Q2(T1T2)T2

W=80000×4.2(290273)273

W=2.092×104 J

So, option (a) is correct.
