A door of width 6 meter has an arch above it having a height of 2 m. Find the radius of the arch.

Given: Width of door =AE=6 m

Let C be the centre of the semicircle that makes the arch.

Then AC=CD= Radius of the semicircle

Let r be the radius of the arch.

Then BC=CDBD

= radius height of the arch

=rh

In right-angled triangle ABC,

AC2=AB2+BC2 (By Pythagoras theorem)

r2=32+(r2)2

r2=9+r24r+4

4r=13

r=134=3.25 m
