The dimensions shown in the figure are in mm. The ratio of braking torque in first and second case is ________ (Correct upto three decimal place)

Case - 1: Drum rotating in ACW


Taking moment about O,

1000×0.4N×0.25f1×0.10=0

or 4000.25NμN×0.10=0

(0.25+0.1μ)N=400

N=4000.25+0.2×0.1=1481.48N

f=μN=0.2×1481.48=296.296N

Torque, Tb1=f1×R=296.296R

Case-2: Drum rotaing clockwise:


Taking moment about O,

1000×0.4N×0.25+f2×0.1=0

(0.25NμN×0.1)=400

N=400(0.250.2×0.1)=1739.13N

f2=μN=0.2×1739.13=347.826N

Torque, Tb2=f2×R=347.826R

Ratio = Tb1Tb2=f1Rf2R=296.296347.826=0.852
