The zinc-carbon battery is an example of a dry cell.The negative pole of the cell (anode) made of zinc combines with the electrolyte which is a paste of zinc chloride and ammonium chloride, to produce free electrons. The to and fro movement of ions between the anode and cathode(the carbon rod), lead to a conductive path for the free electrons that produces electricity. The battery will continue to produce electricity until the electrodes exhaust the chemicals required to sustain the reaction.
