The carrier generator generatescos3(2πfct), but not cos(2πfct). If the average power of the message signal m(t) is 8 W, then the average power of the output modulated signal y(t) will be_______W.

The correct option is A 2.25
x(t)=m(t)cos3(2πfct)
=m(t)[34cos(2πfct)+14cos(6πfct)]
=34m(t)cos(2πfct)+14m(t)cos(6πfct)
After passing through the BPF, we get,
y(t)=34m(t)cos(2πfct)=34m(t)cos(ωct)
=34m(t)(ejωct+ejωct2)=38[m(t)ejωct+m(t)ejωct]
The average power of the signal y(t) will be,

Py=(38)2[Pm+Pm]=932Pm
Given that, Pm=8 W
So, Py=932×8 W=2.25 W
