Question

A electric heater of resistance 8 ohm draws 15 ampere from the service mains 2 hours . Calculate the rate at which heat is developed in the heater .

Open in App
Solution

Dear Student,
Given that
Resistance of electric heater is (R)=8ohm,
current drawn(I)=15A
POWER=(I^2)(R)
=15*15*8
=1800W
So the rate of heat is 1800W or J/s (it is only the rate of heat )
heat energy liberated is 1800*2*3600=1.296*(10^7) J
