Fuse Wire Rating is calculated by knowing the current and the voltage.
So, 1KW at 220V is
V²/R = 1000
220²/1000=R
48.4 ohm = R
I²R = 1000
I²=1000/48.4
I = 20.66A
So, by standard conventions, a 12 gauge wire needs to be used.
