Notice that x has binomial distribution with n = 99, p = q = 0.5.
Therefore the probability
P(x=r)=nCrPrqnrP(x=r)=nCr(0.5)r(0.5)nr=nCr(0.5)n
Thus maximum of P(x = r) corresponds to the value of r with maximal
nCr=n!r!(nr)!
Notice that binomial coefficients are symmetric:
nCr=nrCr=n!r!(nr)!
hence the maximum corresponds to the points most closest to n2
Since n is odd, there are two such values:
r1=n12=982=49,r2=n+12=1002=50
For these numbers the function P(x = r) has maximum.
