A farmer divides his herd of x cows among his four sons such that first son gets one-half of the herd, the scond son gets one-fourth, and the third son gets one fifth and the fourth son gets 7 cows, then the value of x is :

1st son will get x/2
2nd will get x/4
third will get x/5
and 4th will get 7.

Sum of all cows = x

So, x/2 + x/4 + x/5 +7 = x

(10x+ 5x+ 4x+ 140) /20 = x
or, 19x + 140 = 20x
​or, x = 140
