b.I have harvested 10 quintals of wheat today in one acre of land.

c.I have harvested 10 quintals of wheat in one acre of land, 6 months after sowing.

Do the above statements mean one and the same thing? If your answer is yes, give reasons. And if your answer is ‘no’ explain the meaning of each expression.

Quantity is the amount of organic matter.

When the farmer says he has harvested 10 quintals of wheat he is referring to the quantity of wheat.

Primary production:

Primary production is the formation of organic matter by plants per unit area.

When the farmer says he has harvested 10 quintals of wheat today in one acre of land he refers to the quantity produced in a specific area i.e. the primary production.

Primary productivity:

Primary productivity is defined as the synthesis of biomass per unit area per unit time.

When the farmer says that he has harvested 10 quintals of wheat in one acre of land, 6 months after sowing, he refers to the primary productivity.
