A farmer has a rectangular plot of land. It has a length of 500 m and a width of 100 m. If the farmer tries to fence the plot 4 times with barbed wire, what should be the length of the wire required?
4800 m
We know that, perimeter of a rectangle = 2 (length + breadth)
Given, length of the plot = 500 m
breadth of the plot = 100 m
∴ Perimeter of the given rectangular plot
= 2 (500 + 100) = 2 x 600 = 1200 m
The farmer fences the rectangular plot four times.
Therefore, the length of the wire needed to fence the field four times
= 4 x perimeter
= 4 x 1200 = 4800 m.
